Will the new TaylorMade irons help your game?

We love hearing all about the latest golf irons that are coming out and will soon be on the shelves and ready to have a go with. We’ve been speaking with TaylorMade for a while now, and we’re thrilled to finally be able to spill the beans on their new Qi irons!

We appreciate that there is a lot of jargon and strange words that crop up when you’re researching golf clubs, so today we want to simplify some of these terms and give you an understanding of how they help the performance of your golf iron.

The Qi iron face

We’ll start by covering all the fantastic things that the club’s face can do. It’s the one section of the club that connects with the ball, so it’s arguably the most important feature to get right, and TaylorMade have certainly got it right with this iron.

TaylorMade has designed this face to deliver excellent launch and just the right amount of spin needed for you to make your shots as consistent as you can. Qi stands for Quest for Inertia, and the more inertia the club has, the more accurate your shots will be. Once you’ve warmed up and are on a roll, striking with this club feels truly effortless.

The tech in the face allows for it to flex more on impact with the ball, giving you faster ball speeds for more distance on your shots. This iron feels incredibly off the tee, and the sole feels smooth and soft when you strike through turf on the fairway. The club’s shape has also allowed for a larger central sweet spot in the face, so when you’ve hit it well, you’ll really know.

The aerodynamic shape

As we’ve just hinted at, TaylorMade has put a lot of time into engineering the aerodynamic clubhead. The head of each iron in the set has been designed to deliver an ideal performance for that specific club, so whether you’re hitting a 5 iron or a 9 iron, you can rest assured you have the right tool for the task at hand.

TaylorMade has also increased the blade length in each iron for additional forgiveness, a longer shaft will allow you to build up more momentum through your swing to transfer more energy into the ball. It goes without saying that this iron is also very attractive to look at. Lining up your iron with the ball feels great and puts you in the mood to send it exactly where you want it.

Cutting-edge performance

There’s a lot of tech in this iron that allows us to make better shots. TaylorMade has been very careful with where the center of gravity is located within each iron.

In the longer irons, the CG is low to give your shots more distance while the CG is raised in the shorter irons to give you a higher launch. Essentially, playability has been optimised in the long irons while the shorter irons have been enhanced to give you better all-round control.

Now that we’ve taken a look at how the tech in the clubs will help you gain the edge when you’re out on the golf course, we’d like to take a closer look at all the irons available in the range.

As we’ve summed up above, the Qi irons are a fantastic addition to the TaylorMade iron family. TaylorMade has also released a Qi High Launch variation of their Qi irons. As you can expect, these irons have been engineered to give your shots more height and are a perfect alternative for players that have slower swing speeds and are looking to get more distance off the tee.

The Qi10 is a lot of fun, but we’d also like to leave you on their flagship irons, the P770 and the P790. These irons are dependable, good-looking, and packed with tried-and-tested TaylorMade tech to give you the edge you need on your approach shots. The P770 will give you all the advantages of a classic bladed iron, whereas the P790 has a thicker topline to give you a boost of forgiveness.
