Another successful week of golf
A total of 762 players took part in this year’s festival of golf which is an increase of 170 from the previous year. The weather was great, the course was in fantastic condition and Francis and his team kept everyone well fed and watered. We need to thank all the volunteers that helped out during the week with registration, checking score cards and the prize giving. Congratulations go out to our Head Greenkeeper James and his team for providing us with a course in superb condition especially considering the recent hot & testing weather. A big thank you to Paul Vickerstaff who very generously sponsored the Junior Open prizes. A last but not least, thanks to Charlotte who has worked tirelessly putting together the whole of the festival, increasing the number of entries by more 170 players and making the event extremely successful.

Golf jargon can be confusing. Take drivers for example; why is there a 460cc limit set by golf's governing bodies and what does this actually mean? |
Why is driver head size limited? Driver heads are measured in volume and are limited to 460 cubic centimetres (cc). This limit is enforced to stop technology diminishing the skill level needed to play well off the tee. What are the benefits of larger heads? Playing a 460cc driver, like the PING G400 Max (far left), gives you the biggest head possible, which means you can miss the middle of the face now and then and still hit a good shot because they tend to be extremely forgiving. What about smaller heads? Smaller heads, like the 445cc PING G400, create less drag as they move through the air, so should give you faster swing speeds, which translate to faster ball speeds and more distance, but are a little less forgiving than a larger 460cc headed driver. |
