St Patrick’s Day Open

The feedback from most of the 72 strong field said that these were possibly the toughest conditions for golf for many a year resulting in only nine teams managing to combat the freezing blizzard and complete all 18 holes. The format of all scores counting on the par threes and fives proved to be popular, but extremely difficult in the winter weather.

The trio of Lee Halliwell, Scott Collet and Matt Sealy seemed to have the most energy and endurance on the day blasting away the opposition will a remarkable score of 89 points and winning by a margin of 10. This is not the first time this combination of players have won this season so I think they will find themselves firmly in the crosshairs of the handicap committee. Only two twos were carded with Tim Greenslade and Pete Lightfoot winning a share of 48 balls.

The last five opens have boasted full fields and the St Patrick’s Day Open was no different. This has been mostly due to the improvements in course condition and the great work by carried out by Charlotte and the rest of the golf team in the marketing and promotion of each event. Now just a few thank yous to Jill Britton for her help with the registration and scoring, Francis and the clubhouse team for keeping the Guinness flowing and James and his team for the continued improvements with the course. Without all these ingredients the events wouldn’t be such a success and it is great to see the club moving forward.
